Agüimes

Agüimes hides one of the most interesting natural gems of Gran Canaria, it is Barranco de Guayadeque. The natural area separates the towns of Ingenio and Agüimes, is one of the largest canyons of the Canarian archipelago, in addition to the environmental value of the area it should be noted that prehispanic remains are found in this ravine. To this we must add the cave houses that are scattered along the ravine, it is even possible to see a hermitage or some restaurant dug in the stone. The Barranco de Guayadeque has a great archaeological value, since there are a large number of caves that were inhabited by the aborigines of the island. Inside these caves, a large number of vestiges have been found, from tools and tools to a collection of mummies, such is the importance that the area has been declared Asset of Cultural Interest with the category of Archaeological Zone by the Historical Heritage Law of Gran Canaria. The ravine of Guayadeque also has the Interpretation Center where it is possible to know and learn about the archaeological sites that are scattered. Of greater importance are the groups of troglodyte habitats that are located under foot of escarpments and on slopes, it is considered one of the most beautiful landscapes of Gran Canarias

The main parish of San Sebastián or the town of Agüimes, in the province of Las Palmas, is a valuable example of what the artistic current of the neoclassical style meant in the Canarian archipelago.

The Casa de la Cámara Episcopal is located in the Gran Canarian municipality of Agüimes, this property is also known by the name of Palacio de Verdugo strong> and where the Episcopal Chamber of the Villa de Agüimes was located. With the passage of time the House of the Episcopal Chamber passed from the summer residence of the bishops to the store where the tithes were dosed that the Catholic Kings granted to Bishop Frias. The Agüimes mountain is located in the southwest sector of the island, very close to the town of the same name. This protected area is a volcanic manifestation of the oldest on the island where it is possible to observe archaeological paintings and engravings, among which we can highlight El Hombre de Guayadeque, considered the symbol par excellence of the Aboriginal culture of the Canary Islands. This protected landscape is located next to the stretch of the Guayadeque ravine and you can find a variety of flora such as sweet tabaiba, balos, vinegars, it is also possible to see Canary palms . With respect to the archaeological remains besides those mentioned, remains have been found in the caves of the Morros de Ávila or rock engravings in Morro Cuervo. In addition to this, habitational caves and necropolis have also been found in the Banda de Agüimes that show the great importance of this enclave. Due to the important remains that can be found in the mountain of Agüimes, it has been declared Good of Cultural Interest.
