About Centro Alfarero de Arguayo
Just 5 kilometers from Santiago del Teide is the village of Arguayo, a hamlet that was created by the ancient Guanche shepherds. Currently this construction is known as Centro Alfarero Arguayo and houses the Ethnographic Museum Cha Domitila. The style of property where it is located is a typical house of traditional Canarian architecture with an L shape and composed of an interesting central courtyard and a fountain. Stone was used and the roofs are also the typical ones used in typical Canarian buildings.
The pottery center of Arguayo was designed by Luis Ibañez and was inaugurated in May 1986 and the aim is to study and disseminate the evolution that the guanche pottery until you reach the popular one. The center is not only a direct heir of the techniques used by the Guanche people, but also the evolution of aboriginal pottery, from Berber origin, to the Canarian pottery.
Even today, the same elements are still being used for the manufacture of the pieces: water, volcanic sand, red ocher and some oil.
