Centro de Interpretación de las Salinas de Tenefé

The Interpretation Center of Las Salinas de Tenefé is located in the salinas of the same name in Santa Lucía de Tirajana. The old house of the salinero is what today is known as an interpretation center and that is divided into two different parts in which it is possible to elaborate and extract the salt.

First of all, a tour of the entire area of the salt mines is made in order to know all the facilities, in this tour you can see how the salt is obtained explaining the whole process until this mineral reaches the table of consumers. Then you access the Interpretation Center whose situation is the second floor of the house of the salinero, this part is set up as an exhibition hall and it is possible to know through the explanatory panels, computer supports and reproductions the most remarkable aspects of the history, the nature and anthropology of salt.

The salinas are located in the well-known zone of Punta de Tenefé, they were built at the end of the XVIII century, with the aim of marketing with it with the fishing boats that worked in the Canary waters and thus cover the insular consumption.
