About Ermita de la Virgen de Los Reyes
On the island of El Hierro, in the heart of La Dehesa, one of the most important sanctuaries on the island is located, it is the hermitage of the Virgin of the Kings, erected in honor of the patron saint of El Hierro.
Tells the story that the first mass in honor of the Virgen de los Reyes was made in April 1577, but the hermitage where it currently resides was built in the XVIII century. The hermitage is a humble construction, it stands out that it is built with a single nave, the walls have the characteristic of being whitewashed and painted with a radiant white immaculate.
The hermitage of the Virgin of the Kings has a small bell tower, in the only tower that has the temple and is accessed through a staircase that is located on the outside. The Hermitage is walled and topped with beautiful plants that embellish the surroundings.
In addition, the surroundings of the hermitage are a perfect place to be able to make interesting hiking routes, routes that go as far as the Mirador de Bascos and the junipers of El Hierro.
The Virgen de los Reyes was a gift from some sailors who went to Las Americas and who had problems in Mar de las Calmas< Mar de las Calmas / strong>, they were left without food and the shepherds of El Hierro gave provisions for the trip and in gratitude received the Virgen de los Reyes.
