About Horno de Cal de Los Silos
On the coast of Los Silos are the remains of a historic complex consisting of two attached kilns that in the past served for the manufacture of lime for agricultural use and as construction material. This historic complex is located in the Puertito de Daute and the oldest of the kilns dates from the 19th century, another of them dates from 1931.
The construction of the stone kilns are simple and they are composed of stone and brick for the most part.
The set is also composed of the old warehouse where it is located next to the ovens as well as a small pond that served to finish the final product.
Los Hornos de Cal were declared Assets of Cultural Interest along with all the historical center of the population of Los Silos.
The kilns were working until the 70s, when the use of cement began to be generalized.
