Monumento Natural de la Caldera

Alajero has another of those charming places where you can spend a day in the middle of nature, it's the Caldera Natural Monument on the island of La Gomera. In the west of the island is this unique place, both for its geomorphology and its landscapes.

The La Caldera Natural Monument is an important exponent of the most recent volcanism in La Gomera, it is given an important scientific interest since the island is quite old and has been heavily dismantled by the erosion action.

It should be remembered that the island has not registered volcanic activity for more than a million years and despite this the caldera is the best preserved volcanic cone of La Gomera, it is on the coast south of the island and has a height of 135 meters above sea level and has an area of around 39 hectares. The cone is surrounded by The Hip and the Mountain bordering the southern part with the cliffs of Alajeró. Talking about the vegetation in the area, Tabaibal predominates more than anything.
