About Museo Etnográfico de La Gomera
Located in a 2-storey building in the town of Hermigua in the neighborhood of Las Hoyetas is the Ethnographic Museum of La Gomera. This museum aims to investigate, preserve and disseminate the popular culture of the island, do not claim to have a nostalgic view of the past but the center aims to revive the customs of the island with the aim of making visitors reflect on the social realization .
The Ethnographic Museum of La Gomera is located in a building built at the beginning of the 20th century and it is a review of how hard it was for the inhabitants of La Gomera adapt to the physical and abrupt environment that the island presents.
In the museum you can not only see objects such as farming implements, furniture, tools, ceramics, basketry etc. but it is possible to see other aspects that are part of the island's culture. The Ethnographic Museum of La Gomera would not be possible without the tireless work of Virgilio Brito, scholar of the traditions of La Gomera and lover of his land and of all the idiosyncrasies of the population. An indispensable place to know the traditional lifestyle of the inhabitants of the island.
