Parque Nacional de Timanfaya

About Parque Nacional de Timanfaya

One of the unmistakable symbols of Lazarote and Canary Islands is the Timanfaya National Park one of the most beautiful places to be You can visit in the archipelago. The park is part of the municipality of Yaiza, but also of the adjoining municipality of Tinajo. Timanfaya was declared National Park in 1974, becoming the third protected area of the Canary archipelago.

Timanfaya represents an interesting example of recent volcanism in the Macaronesian Region. These eruptions took place in 1730 and 1736, and finally in 1824 and created spectacular geomorphological structures of great volcanological interest.

The beauty of the Timanfaya National Park lies in the absence of a mantle of vegetation along with the extreme rugosity of the terrain, the impossible shapes, the colors that go from reds, browns and ocher reaching blacks and oranges, in addition to the silhouettes of the volcanoes and an abrupt coastline, in short a Martian spot on the island.

Inside the park you can see a lot of phenomena of volcanic nature, clear sample of the activity that the area presents, you can see geysers, gorse combustion and you could even see how food is cooked in the heat that emanates from the earth. An essential place in Lanzarote.
