About Roque de Garachico
Opposite the coast of the Villa de Garachico is the Roque de Garachico, one of the symbols of the municipality, in the northern part of the island Tenerife. The Roque de Garachico has an approximate size of 5 hectares and has been protected since 1987 under the denomination of Natural Area of National Interest of the Islet of Garachico, later, in 1994 acquired the name by which it is currently known, Roque de Garachico National Monument.
The rock was formed from the basalt washes that was isolated by the retreat of the coastline Garachico by the erosive action of the sea. Speaking about the flora in the rock must be noted that it is scarce, but you can see quite a few teasels and tabaibas. It is a stopping point for many birds, you can see the Bulwer Petrel, the Pardela Chica or the Madeira paiño.
The Roque is located about 300 meters from the coast, has steep walls and its highest part is 77 meters above sea level.
