About Salinas de Los Cancajos

In Breña Baja on the island of La Palma is one of the most emblematic places on the island, known as Salinas de Cancajos strong>, also has another name of Salinas de Breña Baja.

The Salinas de los Concajos date from the 18th century and was an initiative of the Presbytery Don Miguel González Toledo that lived between the years 1755 to 1842, natural of Santa Cruz de La Palma.

To access the Salinas de Concajos must be done through a classic stonework cover, once inside the set you can see a house with rectangular floor plan and Arabic tile roof gabled. When the salina was built, both the ground floor and the fish market was the area destined for a warehouse or tooling room where all the tools were stored. For its part, the upper floor served as a home for the owners of the salina.

The Salinas de Concajos has a construction of Greco-Roman inspiration, the layout of it is very rectangular and is topped by two cocadas that are located next to the sea.

In 1867 the action of the sea destroyed part of the lime mortar and due to the lack of money to fix it was abandoned. At the moment what remain are the vestiges of that salina.
