Torre del Conde

In San Sebastian de la Gomera the Torre del Conde is located, one of the symbols of the Isla de La Gomera. The Tower of the Count is a Castilian fortress that was built in the XV century, although it is military-type, the main function was to represent the power of the people.

The Tower is located in the center of the main park of San Sebastian de la Gomera, surrounded by grass and with some trees it is an interesting place to stop to rest or enjoy a relaxing time.

The Conde de la Gomera Hernán Peraza The Old Man ordered the construction of the fortification between 1447 and 1450, served as a refuge for the seigniorial elites when the Rebellion of the Gomeros , A revolt started by the aborigines and ended with the life of the territorial Lord Hernán Peraza.

At first two towers were built but only the current one is conserved, it has a late Gothic style, about 15 meters high and with some 40 meters in diameter and with walls that are around 2 meters long . The red stone blocks in the corners and the white walls of the walls that are sprinkled with stones of the same color as the corners are striking.
