The Cordillera Dorsal, also called Pedro Gil dorsal, is a mountain range that runs through the center of Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain) to the east of the island. It is 25 kilometers long, with an average height of 1,600 meters above sea level.
It is the most important mountain range in the Canary archipelago, both in extension and in vertical development. It covers from the beginnings of the Mount of Hope, at about 750 meters above sea level, to the central zone of the island, near the Las Cañadas circus, its highest point being Izaña, with 2,350 meters of altitude. This structure originated approximately one million years ago due to a basaltic fisural volcanism from one of the axis or structural guidelines of the island, with northeast-southwest direction. It was formed by the accumulation and solidification of the lava layer by layer, until it reached the impressive current size.
Much of the Corona Forestal Natural Park is located in this mountain range.
