The Cal de la Guirra Furnaces Complex is located in the municipality of Antigua, on the island of Fuerteventura, (Canary Islands, Spain), in the so-called Caleta de La Guirra, located between the Marshes and the Caleta de la Hondura, and very next to the Beach and Port of Caleta de Fustes.
The set is located at the mouth of the Barranco de Miraflor, which rises in the foothills of Morro de la Casa (357 m), and Montaña Blanca de Arriba (231 m), between them is the Degollada de Miraflor.
Next to its mouth the Barranco divides into two branches, leaving in the middle a plain where the Well is located, composed of three ovens, a warehouse and a housing-dwelling of the lime trees, as well as a cistern.

Occupying part of the municipal area of Antigua is the Caldera Natural Monument of Gairía. This natural environment is part of the closed watershed of Agua de Bueyes and has dimensions that exceed 240 hectares, forming part of both Antigua and the town of Tuineje. The Caldera de Gairía Natural Monument is in an excellent state of conservation and has a great geological, landscape and geomorphological interest.

Gairía is located in a spectacular lava and pyroclastic field that is located in the Depression Centr which is Malpais, you can see different volcanic buildings: Caldera de Gairía, followed by the Caldera de La Laguna a third one that is the Caldera de Liria and finally there is the Caldera de Arrabales.

The most outstanding of the four is undoubtedly the Caldera de Gairía with an altitude of 461 meters and that excels in a fairly flat area. Thanks to its situation in a flat area, the cone is stately as a landscape landmark and can be seen from many points. The lava languages look perfectly and as you are oriented towards the Central Depression separated from the castings that were emitted from both the Caldera de Liria and the La Laguna (which are those that form Malpais Grande) . The whole environment of the Caldera de Gairía, known as Malpais chico, opens to the southeast and has a western flank due to the extraction of aggregates. .

Gairía has been declared Canary Islands Natural Area as Natural Area of National Interest and was later considered Monument National. With regard to Flora you can find tabaibal dulce, algohuera, hawthorn branch or gorse, while, with respect to fauna, you can spot guirres, alimoches or the occasional presence of the gangas ortega.

3. Zona Arqueológica Poblado de La Atalayita

The town of the Atalayita is located in Antigua on the island of Fuerteventura. This archaeological zone is within the Pozo Negro Valley and has an important value due to the fact that in this village the first aboriginal inhabitants of Fuerteventura settled down and who had the name of Mahos centuries ago.

The town of the Atalayita occupies a size of around 45,000 square meters formed by some 115 structures of different types. On the one hand there are the deconstructions of dry stone, these are small and their shape is frustoconical circular or elliptical plant with a low height. In second place are other major buildings, they are also dry stone but the plant is a little more complex than the others, are divided in the interior by stone walls, these buildings were roofed by vegetables that logically are not preserved.


In addition to these constructions, the Atalayita Village and its surroundings offer a lot of archaeological material that further enhances the importance of the old settlement, fundamentally you can see ceramic fragments of pieces aborigines, bone remains, tools or tools among others.


The Atalayita receives this name because there is a promontory, which is an elevation of the land that allowed to watch from a height the spot and thus alert of possible dangers. 4. Molino de Antigua

It is known that mills began to be built on the island of Fuerteventura in the 18th century, and many have now been preserved, specifically in the town of Antigua. the most interesting and you can visit. The conservation of the mills is a tribute to the legacy of traditional culture on the island, it is to highlight the importance that this type of construction was for the development of the population that inhabited these places.

In Fuerteventura rainfed agriculture mainly predominated, cereals such as wheat and barley were the cornerstone on which the sector was sustained, such was the importance of crops that the island was considered the granary of the Canary Islands. Harvests harvested in Fuerteventura supplied other islands, such as Tenerife, Gran Canaria and La Palma.

Antigua had large extensions dedicated to the cultivation of cereal so that much of the production was exported to other parts of the archipelago. In order to grind this grain, mills such as Antigua were built and today they are preserved in great detail.

This construction is made with strong masonry walls, divided into three floors and four blades, with the roof of the cone-shaped mill. El Molino de Antigua is fully restored, on the third floor you can see the cogwheel that turns the blades by the force of the wind. The blades are perfectly oriented so that the trade winds rotate the rotor, you could even turn the conical roof to guide them to other winds. While the lower floor was used to store utensils and tools.

The mill currently belongs to the Network of Centers and Museums of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura and also houses the facilities of the Museo del Queso with its own shop where to be able to acquire different types of these delicacies.

The Our Lady of the Old Church, is a Christian temple in the municipality of Antigua, island of Fuerteventura, Canarias strong>. There is evidence of its existence since 1550 but the successive additions and reforms have made the temple one of the most important on the island of Fuerteventura.

The Church is formed by a single ship and it emphasizes its cover of tiles to 3 waters. Other elements that should be noted from the temple is the main altarpiece where you can see an image of Our Lady of Antigua dating from the seventeenth century made of polychrome wood, glassy paste and natural hair. It is undoubtedly one of the most important symbols of the population of Antigua.

In the Church you can also see the sizes of Our Lady of Carmen and Our Lady of Sorrows.

8. Zona Paleontológica Caleta de La Guirra

In full Costa de Antigua is one of the most interesting places in Fuerteventrua, known as La Guirra paleontological site. This place of special interest is located in the cove of the same name, between the Salinas del Carmen and the Hornos de La Guirra. In the La Guirra Reservoir it offers marine deposits from the Pleistocene and up to 37 different species of marine fossils have been cataloged.
The Paleontological Site of the Guirra have 3 very different zones, of these two correspond to the Pleistocene age of the last interglacial with an age that is around 135,000 and the 75,000 years and the third of the Holocene, of the most recent glaciation with an approximate age of 3,550 years.

The site has an area of about 92,000 square meters and in 2005 it was declared as Bien de Interes Culture. One of the most important jewels that the island of Fuerteventura has and that gives an idea of the archaeological value that the area of Antigua has.
