One of the symbols that stands out in the municipality of Ingenio in Gran Canaria is Church of Our Lady of Candelaria. The church was erected in the same place where the hermitage was at the beginning of the 16th century.

The population of Ingenio expressed its interest since 1735 so that this temple was declared a parish, the procedures were initiated to obtain it, at that time the population barely exceeded 160 inhabitants. In 1804 when the inhabitants of Ingenio were already 560, the interest increased, and it was finally in 1815.

The Church of Our Lady of Candelaria is now declared Asset of Cultural Interest with the category of Monument. It is divided into three naves of which the central one is the widest and highest, what is more striking is that in the facade you can see three doors in a semicircular arch.

With respect to what can be found inside the temple, the most outstanding is the image of the Virgin of Candelaria with more than 200 years old. There are also two images carved by Luján Pérez from San José and San Blas.

Los Carrizos del Ingenio is a population center that is located within the municipality of El Ingenio. At this point is the Church of Our Lady of Good Success, a temple that dates from the early twentieth century, specifically from the year 1907 and was built on the site of the old hermitage of 1958.

The I Church of Our Lady of Good Success of El Carrizal del Ingenio has had up to three sizes of the virgin, the first of which was found in the Playa del Burrero, was a small and somewhat deformed image and was replaced by another one with head and hands that came from Genoa and that was put in a candlestick body. Finally, the final one is an image of the virgin carved by José Paz Vélez in 1971.

The church, like many other temples on the island, was built by popular initiative in the 17th century. It was enlarged in 1781 due to the growth of the population and neoclassical elements were added. In 1907 it was elevated to the category of parish.

One of the most interesting nature reserves that form part of the municipality of Ingenio in Gran Canaria is the Special Natural Reserve of the Marshes. This natural space has a size of 3500 Hectares and is part of the municipalities of Santa Lucia, Agüimes, Valsequillo, San Mateo, San Bartolomé, Telde, Tejeda and of course the population of Ingenio.

This reserve offers mountainous landscapes of great beauty and are limited to the south by spectacular escarpments. Some of the most outstanding geomorphological elements that can be found in Los Marteles is the caldera of the same name or a phonolithic python of Roque Blanco.

The ecological importance of the reserve is vital since it contributes to maintaining some essential ecological processes such as the recharge of the aquifers since it houses the basins of San Bartolomé, Tenteniguada and Temisas.

At the same time it also has a habitat of flora and fauna of great value, you can find acebuchales and willow and farallones and endemic plant species. Note also the Risco Blanco, the corner of tenteniguada, the Paso de la Plata and Temisas as well as the ravine of Guayadeque strong> and the Kestrels.
