Triunfo de la Candelaria
El Triunfo de la Candelaria is one of the main sculptural monuments of the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, (island of Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain). Also known as Obelisco de la Candelaria, it was donated in its day by Bartolomé Montañez, as a complement to the marble cross that he himself had given a few years before in order to complete the ornamentation of the Plaza de la Pila, so named because it was a source that since the early eighteenth century supplied drinking water to the population of Santa Cruz and the boats that anchored in its port, and now called Plaza de la Candelaria.
The monument is dedicated to the Virgin of Candelaria, whom the Canarian Archipelago has as its patron, and symbolizes the appearance of the Virgin and the subsequent conversion of the Guanche menceys. It is a neoclassical monument, although the Virgin has Gothic traces.
