El Pinar

Located at a historical point of reference by the old cartography, at the tip of the same name, you will find the Faro de Orchilla, in El Hierro, in the town from El Pinar. The work of the lighthouse was started by Antonio Montesdeoca and aided by the engineer Eloy Campiña and was completed and delivered in 1930. Currently the Faro de Orchilla are in disuse and several projects are being studied to revitalize the area.

As you already know too well the Canary Islands is an archipelago of volcanic origin, which is why since El Hierro the Vulcanological Interpretation Center. Located in El Pinar, this museographic space will offer visitors, thanks to the use of technology, an interactive experience that allows to know and discover the volcanic phenomena in the Canary Islands. Visitors will be able to use the technological equipment available to interact with the contents and enjoy an audiovisual experience with volcanological information and in this way to know much better the existing training on the islands. Between October 2011 and March 2012 there were submarine eruptions near the El Pinar locality, specifically in La Restringa, which even provoked evacuation of the population. Thanks to the available tools it is possible to relive that volcanic eruption that took place on the ground. The Vulcanological Interpretation Center has two buildings and an interpretive path that passes between the two and that crosses a volcanic zone. The first of these buildings is dedicated exclusively to Canarian volcanism and specifically the one that most affects the island of El Hierro. Meanwhile, in the second of the buildings, visitors can enjoy an audiovisual show where the eruption is reproduced in La Restinga, in the town of El Pinar. In order for the experience to be complete in the center, it has routes that allow you to visit the main vulcanological zones of the island. The center is perfectly signposted and is located on the road to La Restinga, has parking and basic services for a visitor center. Thanks to the technological equipment of the center it is possible to have an exciting experience through the great interactive wall in which the different volcanic landscapes are shown. To know much better the origin not only of El Hierro but of the whole archipelago the Vulcanological Interpretation Center is a must visit, a place not only to learn but also to have fun.

One of the most famous and visited trails on the island of El Hierro is the Camino de Tacorón. This road was used on the island since ancient times and has been recovered for use by hikers. The enclave in which Tacorón can be wild due to its geology, but this is what makes it a unique space. It should also highlight the climate that oscillates between 22 and 25 ºC even though it is winter and that even allows to enjoy baths in its waters. The Camino de Tacorón starts from Taibique which is in El Pinar, at about 826 meters altitude and reaches the cove of the same name already at sea level. The route runs through built areas and some fields of vineyards among other abandoned land. As the road progresses it enters relatively recent volcanic terrains, between small mountains of ancient volcanoes you can see the channels that formed the lava flows when they descended towards the coast. The volcanic landscapes that can be observed from the Camino de Tacorón are unique, you can see perfectly the volcanic lava that receives the name of Lajiar or also known as Lava Cordada This type of lava is "wash pahoehoe" very flexible and that they descended by slopes of little slope, giving rise to an almost unique landscape formed by twisted and intertwined rocks. Following the path you will reach the Hoya de los Roque with ancient volcanic cones, very close to trails and that can be seen from it.The last part of the road is more outstanding and flows into the Cala de Tacorón, a place of natural pools where it is possible to take a bath and spend a day at the beach. National Geographic considered the cove or beach of Tacorón as one of the best and highest quality in Spain.

The Las Playas area is located in the southeastern part of the island of El Hierro. Looking at the Las Playas natural monument with a little perspective gives the impression of being a huge bite resulting from the landslides that made this part of El Hierro collapse. This collapse of land gave rise to a kind of amphitheater with a dimension of 9 kilometers long and with a difference of one thousand meters high overlooking the sea. All these elements make Las Playas an ideal corner for tranquility and tranquility away from urban centers, a perfect place for a complete disconnection. The highlights of Las Playas are undoubtedly the views that it offers from the viewpoints, one of them with the same name as this area and another one the Isora viewpoint. Both viewpoints are located at the top of the valley. You can see the well-known Roque de Bonanza, a rock that juts out of the water in the bay of the beach and that under its waters keeps a vigorous underwater richness both of flora and fauna. This coastline offers the largest beach in El Hierro, has recreational and picnic areas to enjoy a great day at the beach. At the end of the bay is the Parador Nacional which is embedded in the coast. There is a path that allows you to descend from the Mirador de Isora to Las Playas. The trail starts at the same viewpoint, which is reached after crossing the town of Isora. This path goes along the entire right flank to the Barranco del Abra and although there are some parts in which it ascends minimally practically the entire trail is descending.Throughout the walk the road widens, narrows and zigzags with which it turns the path into fun and changing. You can see a representative part of the flora of the island, Canarian pine, junipers, broom, coastal vegetation before reaching the beach itself.

The Mirador de Tanajara offers a wonderful view of the Mar de Las Calmas and the hillside of El Julán and that is topped in the South part by the volcanoes of La Restinga. You could see the strength of the volcanic riff and riff that is culminated in the La Restinga with more than 200 volcanic cones. From this point it was possible to see the volcanic eruptions that were recorded between 2011 and 2012 on the seabed of the hamlet of La Restinga. What also makes this place very special are the spectacular sunsets when the sun sets over the horizon of the sea. In this part of the island El Pinar there is an area that is dedicated to the cultivation of vines to make the most famous wine of El Hierro, it is Tanajara . The wineries of the same name follow the winemaking tradition that the British farmer John Hill back in the sixteenth century. Tanajara is located in the western region of El Hierro, what makes this part of the island special are the special and unique orographic conditions, steep slopes and volcanic soils at 600 meters above the level of the sea. To these unique elements of the area we must add the special micro-climate that will give the Vijariego Negro and Baboso Negro grape varieties the touch that will make the wine that will be produced special. It is possible to visit the area and see the situation of the vineyards as well as tasting the fabulous wines that produce this part of the island year after year. Until a few years ago the wines were produced and bottled in the same island, but it has been moved to another island in the Canary archipelago to give greater renown to the production. The wines that are produced have Denominación de Origen de El Hierro.

In the municipality of El Pinar is on the southern slopes of El Hierro, here is El Julán, a hillside with a strong slope that descends to the El Gofio Valley. In addition to the beauty of its landscapes, the highlight of this part of the island is the archaeological site of El Julán. The first inhabitants of the island of El Hierro were the Bimbaches, some. These aborigines left many petroglyphs, which are symbolic designs that are engraved on rocks and that even today have not been deciphered. The petroglyphs that are in this environment are the most extensive that exist on the island, especially those that are named The El Julán signs. After discovering this important archaeological site, the Rock Art Interpretation Center was founded to extend the knowledge of this archaeological zone to all visitors. Close to this archaeological zone you can also find the remains of the old meeting place called Tagoror. In the Tagoror was where the ancient Guanche aborigines met and their assemblies took place. In El Julán it is also possible to carry out a guided tour through the archaeological zone and to know in depth how the first settlers lived in El Hierro. They have discovered primitive tools, utensils, containers, even buried in caves mummified bodies. The Julán, centuries later was also a place where the shepherds led the flock to take it to graze, the curious thing of this is that it was not limited to nearby historical times, but that the primitive ones already realized it Herreños, with the same aims, take the cattle to the communal lands. The whole area of the Julán also have hiking trails where it is possible to enjoy all these prehistoric vestiges, while enjoying the views.

La Restringa is a Spanish hamlet that is part of the municipality of El Pinar on the El Hierro island. It is located on the Atlantic coast, at the southern tip of the island. One of the curiosities is that La Restinga is the most southern population center of Europe. This district is a fully maritime location dedicated to fishing. Its black sand beaches and crystal clear waters are some of its most outstanding attractions. For diving enthusiasts this place is a must see since its depths have been declared r marine reserve since 1996 and have 1,180 hectares and constitutes the southernmost reserve in Europe . Divers that delve into the depths of La Restinga can find rocky and abrupt backgrounds in which you can see caves, tunnels and falls, such as El Bajón, an underwater volcano that they say was explored for the first time by Jacques Costeau, or the Punta de los Saltos. In addition to having a subtropical climate there are species that are not seen in other points of the island; invertebrates such as lobsters, blinds, black and yellow corals, shrimp, anemones or sponges among others. Other species that can be found are groupers, old (parrot fish), sargos, jacks, selves, salemas, moray eels, rays, seagrass, tablecloths, on several occasions it is possible to see turtles, sharks, angels, devil blankets and much lucky whale sharks The vegetation cover is very dense and can reach up to 70 meters deep, predominantly calcareous and brown algae. In addition, it is spectacular seabed of La Restinga has been hosting for some years editions of the Open Fotosub, a competition of underwater photographs that reaches this place a lot of fans of underwater photography. In the waters of La Restinga a volcanic eruption took place between 2011 and 2012, even the population was evicted for safety reasons. From this eruption arose a submarine volcanic building 400 meters deep and stood at 89 from the surface of the sea surface with a height of 312 meters. In May 2016 the volcano was officially named Tagoro Volcano
