In the municipality of Ingenio on the island of Gran Canaria you will find a wonderful natural environment called: Montaña de las Tierras which is a spectacular dark reddish volcanic rock that emerges from the deep ravine of Guayadeque and joins the towns of Agüim and Ingenio. The Mountain of the Earths in the Ingenio stand out about 150 meters and more than 1000 meters above sea level. This natural landscape not only attracts the attention of visitors and tourists, but is also the object of study by scientists for the magma varieties that emerged. The vicinity of the Mountain of the Earths is surrounded by the Barranco de Guayadeque that keeps an unpublished history since it starts in the Caldera de los Marteles until the end in Ingenio, on the beach of Burrero. It keeps a wide vegetation, with springs of water that from the beginning of the XX century do not arise. The ravine hosted an important aboriginal settlement and later shepherds were established. The Mountain of the Earths and all its surroundings is an impressive natural place, rich in flora and native fauna and ideal to enjoy days in the middle of nature.

One of the symbols that stands out in the municipality of Ingenio in Gran Canaria is Church of Our Lady of Candelaria. The church was erected in the same place where the hermitage was at the beginning of the 16th century. The population of Ingenio expressed its interest since 1735 so that this temple was declared a parish, the procedures were initiated to obtain it, at that time the population barely exceeded 160 inhabitants. In 1804 when the inhabitants of Ingenio were already 560, the interest increased, and it was finally in 1815. The Church of Our Lady of Candelaria is now declared Asset of Cultural Interest with the category of Monument. It is divided into three naves of which the central one is the widest and highest, what is more striking is that in the facade you can see three doors in a semicircular arch. With respect to what can be found inside the temple, the most outstanding is the image of the Virgin of Candelaria with more than 200 years old. There are also two images carved by Luján Pérez from San José and San Blas.

One of the most interesting nature reserves that form part of the municipality of Ingenio in Gran Canaria is the Special Natural Reserve of the Marshes. This natural space has a size of 3500 Hectares and is part of the municipalities of Santa Lucia, Agüimes, Valsequillo, San Mateo, San Bartolomé, Telde, Tejeda and of course the population of Ingenio. This reserve offers mountainous landscapes of great beauty and are limited to the south by spectacular escarpments. Some of the most outstanding geomorphological elements that can be found in Los Marteles is the caldera of the same name or a phonolithic python of Roque Blanco. The ecological importance of the reserve is vital since it contributes to maintaining some essential ecological processes such as the recharge of the aquifers since it houses the basins of San Bartolomé, Tenteniguada and Temisas. At the same time it also has a habitat of flora and fauna of great value, you can find acebuchales and willow and farallones and endemic plant species. Los Carrizos del Ingenio is a population center that is located within the municipality of El Ingenio.
