Barranco de Badajoz

About Barranco de Badajoz

In the municipality of Güimar is the one known as Barranco de Badajoz, which receives this name thanks to the Castilian conquistador Juan de Badajoz that acquired land after the conquest of the island at the end of the 15th century.

Formerly this area was called by the Guanches, as Chamoco area, a term that many of the inhabitants of the area continue to call. The Barranco de Badajoz is a tributary of the Barranco del Agua and is located in the southernmost part of the Valle de Güimar, it was born at about 1852 meters above sea level, in the Cordillera Dorsal of the island near the top of Izaña.

The beauty of the Barranco de Badajoz is spectacular, in certain parts it becomes an authentic canyon with walls on both sides. The ravine runs through protected areas such as the Corona Forestal Natural Park or the Protected Landscape of the Seven Hills.

Around this place there have been numerous legends about strange events. There is talk of apparitions of angelic beings, paranormal phenomena, sightings of lights, entities or UFOs, they have come to find traces of satanic rituals. Parapsychologists experts say that it is an area very similar to the famous Bridgewater Triangle in Massachusetts.
