About Capilla de San Pedro de Abajo

The Chapel of San Pedro de Abajo, in the municipality of Güímar, island of Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain), is a simple construction of a square trend, with masonry walls and concrete blocks, with Arab tile roof to four waters. Its most representative element is the large half-point doorway in stonework. Inside, the frescoes represent medallions with vases on the side walls, while in the background there is a canopy with angels.

In 2012 an image of the Virgen de Luján (patron saint of Argentina) was placed in the church, the image was donated by an Argentine citizen living in Tenerife, a native of city of Luján. The solemn enthronement of the Virgin was promoted by the Consulate of the Argentine Republic in the Canary Islands and the chapel of San Pedro de Abajo. The Casa de Argentina in Tenerife and the City Council of Güímar also collaborated in this event.
