About Casa de la Alhóndiga
The La Carrera street is one of the most important areas of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, in the historical center, declared a World Heritage Site, in it There is the Casa de la Alhóndiga.
The building was built at the beginning of the 18th century and later reformed in the 19th century, whose reform tried to transform the dwelling into a theater. La Casa de la Alhóndiga throughout its history has served as a jail, school, courthouse, storehouse of the Cabildo and is currently part of the dependencies of the municipality of La Laguna.
The facade of the Casa de Alhóndiga is renovated in the neoclassical style and is topped with a stone cornice and a triangular pediment on the parapet that hides the roof.
The renovation was carried out by the architect Manuel de Oraá, with the intention of converting the building into a theater.
At present, its interior conserves a large part of the original building, the entrance has a sober stone door, on it a shield is placed. The large, symmetrically distributed guillotine windows also stand out.
