About Casa del Corregidor
Another of the historic buildings that are located in the historic center of La Laguna is Casa del Corregidor. It should be remembered that thanks to this type of buildings that today are preserved the historic center of San Cristobal de La Laguna is World Heritage. The House of the Corregidor was built in 1540, so it is one of the oldest buildings in the town, although the original construction today only retains the cover of a spectacular red volcanic stone.
The House of the Corrected r was used as a prison in the eighteenth century, from that time a vaulted room is preserved, currently houses municipal offices.
The conservation of the stone gate is a good example of the ancient plateresque art of the Canarian archipelago. It can be seen that it has a triple heraldry: the Shield of the aforementioned corregidor, the shield of Tenerife that was delivered by Juan I of Castile in 1510 and the imperial shield of Charles V.
La Casa del Corregidor is another of the emblematic buildings that can be visited in San Cristóbal de La Laguna.
