About Centro de Interpretación de Los Molinos

One of the most interesting places in Tuineje is the Interpretation Center of Los Molinos de Tiscamanita. The importance of the mills in the Canarian archipelago is vital, this is specifically dedicated to the production of gofio, food that saved the inhabitants of the island from several periods of famine.

The Interpretation Center was inaugurated in 1997, is located in a traditional dwelling and covers the whole gofio production process through several centuries of history.

The Mill of Tiscamanita exposes in its facilities diverse objects and tools that were used for the elaboration of the gofio, that is a species of flour resultant of the ground of different toasted cereals. The facilities also have a perfectly preserved tahona that is still in operation today and where you can see how the grain is ground into powder.

The mill has a large number of panels where information is given to visitors of the entire process and at the end of the tour it is possible to taste traditional sweets made from ground gofio, oil and sugar. A must to know the culture that revolves around this food so important for the inhabitants majoneros.
