Espacio Cultural Cine Los Ángeles

In November of the year 2017 the Cultural Space Cine Los Angeles reopened its doors becoming today a multipurpose space for the realization of cultural activities in the municipality. The construction dates back to 1934, in a modernist style, housing the Cine Los Angeles, under the guidance of Francisco Almeida Medina, a lover of the Seventh Art and closely linked to the Numancia cinema of the Tenerife capital, and disappeared theater-cinema Güímar.

A quadrangular cloth screen was placed on it, and on both sides two sirens of the Cádiz-born painter Manuel López Ruiz. They are currently in the hall of the Teatro Leal of La Laguna. It was the first cinema in the town that set up the Mascope system, consisting of a screen and motors. From 1937 to 1960 he worked as operator José Lorenzo Pérez Campos, known as Pepe Reyes, who took over the cinema from 1960 to 1985, later moving to the heirs of the Almeida family. Apart from the film sessions, dances were held, awards of the Gente Menuda contest, Radio Popular de Güímar, and numerous performances. In the nineties, the place was used to make film cycles and even cock fights.

Then it was transformed into a billiard room and later into a toy store. In 1998 the Cabildo de Tenerife acquired the building and the adjoining land for the expansion of its facilities. Shortly after, he gave it to the City Council in order to provide the municipality with a center enabled for cultural events, as he had already done in other areas of Tenerife.
