About Iglesia de Santo Domingo de Guzmán
This Church corresponds to the chapel of the former convent of the Dominican Brothers. In 1649 the construction of the Santo Domingo In Soriano convent was started with the purpose of welcoming the Virgen de Candelaria to guard it in the event of a pirate attack. In 1775 it suffered a fire where it was partially destroyed. The image of Saint Patriarch and Blessed Sacrament was saved.
The oldest and most venerated, the Virgin of the Rosary was restored that same year by Rodríguez de la Oliva. In 1938, after the Mendizabal Confiscation the convent building has other uses of a civil nature.
Finally, most of what was the convent was intended for use by the current City Council. The chapel was reopened to worship in 1961.
