Villa de Mazo keeps one of the most important pre-Hispanic groups on the island of La Palma, it is known as Belmaco Archaeological Park . It is the first archaeological site that was discovered in Canarias and is formed by an interesting station of geometric rock engravings and has 4 panels in which you can see mainly spirals, concentric circles and meandriforms. It was here that the first petroglyphs were found in the Canary Islands in the 18th century.
The caves that can be seen in the Archaeological Park of Belmaco have some great conditions to be able to be enabled and even at the time it was occupied permanently by the benahoritas.
According to some studies, it has been shown that it served as a room for the captains of the canton of Tigalate, two brothers known for Juguiro and Garhagua. It has also been discovered that the caves served as a burial site.
The Archaeological Park of Belmaco keeps many other surprises as it has been related to these caves as a magic-religious place where rituals were performed, such as invoking rain in times of drought. The ten natural caves that can be visited will not leave indifferent to any of the visitors who may also enjoy the services.
