About Playa de las Teresitas
In Santa Cruz de Tenerife we can find one of the most visited and most charming beaches on the island, known as Teresitas beach. This beach is located specifically in the population center of San Andrés, which belongs to the capital and is considered one of the most tourist areas that can be visited.
The Teresitas beach is different from the other beaches that exist in Tenerife, the golden color of its sands will be very noticeable, so uncharacteristic from other black sand beaches. The beach was artificially modified in the 70s, initially the sand was black and was called After the Arena and Las Teresitas, a dike was installed to make breakwater and avoid the action erosive of the swell and sand was brought from the Sahara and spread.
Next to the beach there is a Quaternary paleontological site, it is an underwater site in an ancient submerged beach of about 400 square meters, where fossils of mollusks have been found, it is worth mentioning that it is the only site of the Canary Islands where fossils of Strombus Bubonius have been found characteristic of the last interglacial period.
