Plaza de España

The most important and at the same time the most extensive square is the Plaza de España which is located in the capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The square is one of the most interesting meeting points of the entire city, it was built at the end of the 20s of the last century on what was the Castle of San Cristóbal whose mission was to serve as a fortress for stop the pirate attacks that the island used to suffer.

So proud they feel in Tenerife of this square that was declared an Insular Plaza of Interest by the Island Council. This square is located between Plaza de la Candelaria and Avenida Maritima, very close to the port.

The Plaza was remodeled by the Swiss architects Herzog and de Meuran who won the tender for its modification, the Pier for the city link was also remodeled .

Among the spaces annexed to the Plaza de España you can see the Palacio Insular de Tenerife that was the seat of the island council, the building of the Sociedad Recreativa Casino de Tenerife. Other buildings that can be seen around the main post office in Tenerife and other infrastructure that are part of the port.
