Plaza El Chicharro

Place where the sculpture of El Chicharro is located. The Plaza del Chicharro, is a small square located in the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain), is located near the Plaza del Principe in the heart of the capital.

The original name of the Plaza del Chicharro was Alférez Provisional, until it changed its name after a neighborhood initiative, after the placement in the center of the emblematic allegorical sculpture Chicharro, which gives the current name the square. This symbolic bronze sculpture was originally placed in 1979, but in the year 2000 it was the object of a robbery and was practically destroyed, so in 2003 the current one was placed which is an exact replica of the original. The sculpture has become the allegorical symbol of the city.
