About Plaza Weyler
The Plaza de General Weyler, locally known as "Plaza Weyler", is located in the heart of the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and connects with the popular Calle del Castillo, the most commercial street in Tenerife. It was built in 1893 by Vicente Armiño and covers some 3,600 square meters.
This square, ideal as a meeting point, owes its name to Valeriano Weyler, Captain General of the Canary Islands during the construction of the Palace of the General Captaincy of the Canary Islands that is in front of it, since it was born as a tribute to his work .
Crowning its center, in the middle of the square stands a fountain made of white Carrara marble, beautifully decorated with neo-renaissance elements.
