The Archaeological Zone of Agua de Dios extends along the bed of the Barranco de Agua de Dios in the municipality of Tegueste. It constitutes a geomorphological axis around which the hydrographic basin of the fertile valley of Tegueste is articulated.
The ravine was formed by the confluence of Barranco de los Núñez and Pedro Álvarez. The Agua de Dios ravine has excavated the contact zone between older Miocene materials and the Pleistocene emissions that cover the entire valley floor.
The Barranco de Agua de Dios supposed a permanent settlement unit of great value and importance on the island. The caves that are found along the archaeological zone were the result of differential erosion in the shallow levels that divided the massive piles stacked on the slopes of the riverbed itself.
Thirty natural caves have been counted, some were used so that the inhabitants could take refuge, served as houses, while others served as a burial chamber. Of the most important are the Cuevas de los Cabezazos or the one of Higuera Cota. Other caves that have been found have been the Cueva del Horno, the Lagarete or Los Guanches.
