1. Ecomuseo de Guinea

To know part of the culture of the Isla de Hierro it is essential to visit the Ecomuseum of Guinea, a pre-Hispanic town at the foot of the Risco de Tibataj e. This is the oldest settlement in the Canary Islands together with La Albarrada and Montañetas, also in El Hierro.

This interesting route shows the evolution of the houses on the island since the seventeenth to the twentieth century. The ecomuseum is outdoors and was inhabited until the 1950s.

Constructions are an interesting example of the island's popular architecture, where stones and highs ( rye straw) are the bases and the most characteristic. The Ecomuseum of Guinea not only shows the architecture itself, but these buildings have all the elements with which they were equipped and used by the ancient inhabitants for their daily tasks.

It is also possible to know the agriculture of the village, since there are traditional crops from which the old inhabitants of the village lived. In short, a tribute to the island and its history.

Also located in the site of the Ecomuseum of Guinea but as an independent visit it is possible to access the Guinea volcanic tube. An essential place to learn more about the geology of El Hierro, its composition and its formation.

In the area archaeological remains have been found that are exposed to visitors. These remains give a good account of the way of life and cultivation techniques thanks to the tools and tools of the ancient aborigines of El Hierro.

One of the charms that this museum has is that it is outdoors, which allows visitors to walk through the old streets and get an idea of what life was like in the settlement.

Also adjacent to the Ecomuseum of Guinea it is possible to know the Recovery Center of the Giant Lizard of El Hierro. In the center they are dedicated to the conservation of this reptile that is in danger of extinction and that is at the same time one of the symbols of the island.

2. Centro de Interpretación del Garoé
The Garoé Interpretation Center is located in the municipality of Valverde, in El Hierro. The Garoé tree was a lime that, they say, cried fresh water. The ancient bimbaches took advantage of its water keeping it by means of a complex system of reservoirs and canalizations. This Interpretation Center not only tells us the history of the Garoé tree, but also explains what horizontal rain is and how this tree relates to the island of El Hierro.

3. Centro de Interpretación Vulcanológico

As you already know too well the Canary Islands is an archipelago of volcanic origin, which is why since El Hierro the Vulcanological Interpretation Center. Located in El Pinar, this museographic space will offer visitors, thanks to the use of technology, an interactive experience that allows to know and discover the volcanic phenomena in the Canary Islands.

Visitors will be able to use the technological equipment available to interact with the contents and enjoy an audiovisual experience with volcanological information and in this way to know much better the existing training on the islands.

Between October 2011 and March 2012 there were submarine eruptions near the El Pinar locality, specifically in La Restringa, which even provoked evacuation of the population. Thanks to the available tools it is possible to relive that volcanic eruption that took place on the ground.

The Vulcanological Interpretation Center has two buildings and an interpretive path that passes between the two and that crosses a volcanic zone. The first of these buildings is dedicated exclusively to Canarian volcanism and specifically the one that most affects the island of El Hierro. Meanwhile, in the second of the buildings, visitors can enjoy an audiovisual show where the eruption is reproduced in La Restinga, in the town of El Pinar. In order for the experience to be complete in the center, it has routes that allow you to visit the main vulcanological zones of the island.

The center is perfectly signposted and is located on the road to La Restinga, has parking and basic services for a visitor center.

Thanks to the technological equipment of the center it is possible to have an exciting experience through the great interactive wall in which the different volcanic landscapes are shown.

To know much better the origin not only of El Hierro but of the whole archipelago the Vulcanological Interpretation Center is a must visit, a place not only to learn but also to have fun.
