Fuerteventura has a large number of boilers that give good faith of the volcanic origin of the island and the entire archipelago. One of them is located in the municipality of Tuineje and is the Caldera de Arrabales, which is surrounded by volcanic cones that represent the island's most recent volcanism, as for example the Caldera de Gairia, or those of La Laguna or Liria all linked to the Natural Monument of Malpaís Grande
This area is well known for the number of trails for hiking enthusiasts, one of the busiest ends in the Caldera de Arrabales, after touring three volcanic cones.

The area is characterized by its rugged landscape, ocher tones, composed of a type of flora dominated by scrub very scattered in steplars, with respect to the fauna if it offers more diversity, it is possible to see birds like the guirre that dominate the whole plain area of Tiscamanita. You can also find feeders for Majorero vultures close to the Caldera de Arrabales and other species, especially birds.
The Caldera de Arrabales rises on the plain with 245 meters and with a depth that exceeds 100 meters

2. Caldera de la Laguna

According to studies it is estimated that the protected area of Malpaís Grande was formed about 100,000 years ago after the eruption of two volcanoes in the Valle Central Majonero. From this arose both the Caldera de La Laguna and Liria, two volcanoes that have arrived practically intact until a few decades ago. For some decades, the hand of man has made almost the boiler of Liria is missing, there is still part of the boiler of La Laguna. Currently it has dimensions of about 300 meters in height and represents one of the most beautiful exponents of the recent volcanism of Fuerteventura. The geological and landscape elements offered by the La Laguna caldera are impressive, geological gems that shed a lot of information about their training.

In addition to the geological importance offered by La Caldera de la Laguna, it also has a special protection area for birds, where a large number of species nest. In the area of La Laguna it is also possible to make hiking trails that run throughout the Malpaís.


The caldera is located just 4 kilometers from the town of Tuineje and adjoins Tiscamanita.

Tuineje stands out for being surrounded by impressive volcanic areas, with rugged landscapes, ocher tones with stunning views that seem taken from another planet. A place that can be reached by doing one of the multiple hiking routes that are in the area is the Mountain or Round Rodeo.

They are zones of little vegetation where it is possible to find some sweet taibas, also they appear verodales in the highest zones. With respect to the fauna, birds that nest in nearby areas predominate, such as the Egyptian vulture or guirres which is undoubtedly one of the most emblematic birds of Fuerteventura.

From the viewpoint of Sicciousness it is possible to see not only the impressive night sky, but it is also possible to see the south-western slope of the mountain Hendida. This place is close to Tiscamanita, the trails that reach this part of Tuinaje have been conditioned to visit them without problems.

4. Caldera de Liria

Separated by the lava flows that emerged from the Caldera de Gaíria flowing towards the central depression are the Calderas de Liria and the Caldera de La Laguna and form part of the so-called Malpaís.

The caldera of Liria was formed 100,000 years ago after the eruption of the two Volcanoes in the Central Valley Majonero. The landscape offered by this part of Malpais that is within the municipality of Tuinaje will transport visitors to another planet. It has a great landscape value and in the area nesting guirres or Egyptian vultures, with respect to the flora is dominated by the scrub.

It is struggling to conserve the Caldera de Liria, because in the last decades it has undergone an important extraction of materials.
