2. Yacimiento Arqueológico Las Crucecitas

Mogán has some important archaeological sites, one of which is known as Las Crucecitas. Las Crucecitas is a pre-Hispanic site which is located at the mouth of a ravine where domestic areas and funerary spaces integrated into the same territory coincide. The site is an old indigenous town where you can walk and which has the name of Barranquillo Lomo Los Gatos, this is connected to two necropolises called La Puntilla and another with the name of Las Crucecitas.

All these archaeological remains show that the city of Mogán was inhabited before the conquest. The site of the Crucecitas is a pre-Hispanic cemetery placed on the hillside and formed by tombs in caves and stone funerary constructions.

These funeral constructions are arranged in a staggered way, offered in different types according to their situation. In one of them burials are given in pits surrounded by a ring of stones, on the other hand there are others of quadrangular form, at the moment 17 funeral constructions are conserved whose archaeological excavation has allowed to document skeletal remains of up to 14 old settlers. The archaeological site throws a lot of light on the custom of the first ancestors that inhabited the area of Mogán.

Tourism offices

The town of Mogán has one of the most emblematic pre-Hispanic archaeological sites on the island of Gran Canaria and is divided into several parts. On the one hand there is the coastal town that was built at the mouth of the Mogán ravine and that grew to become one of the settlements with the highest concentration of inhabitants, a group of stone houses that form the town of the Cañada de los Gatos, then there is the house of the Siete Esquinas and finally the necropolis of La Puntilla and Las Crucecitas with the burial caves.

The archaeological site of the Cañada de los Gatos has been declared Asset of Cultural Interest due to the importance within the chronoculture of the pre-Hispanic populations and for the good conservation of the entire environment.

The former inhabitants of the Cañada de los Gatos chose this place to build the town due to the good conditions offered by the place, the climate, the existence of running water that came from the ravine, good lands to be cultivated and the proximity of the coast that offered fishing.

The Archaeological Zone of the Cañada de los Gatos is well connected with the different points of the town to know the way of life of the ancient settlers.

The Molino Quemado ethnological site, also known by the name of Windmill of Vient or simply, is located in the neighborhood of the same name of Mogán. This mill is located just 500 meters from the core of Mogán in an enclave about 200 meters above sea level. It is a windmill that was dedicated to grinding cereals to obtain flour, it is formed by two overlapping cylinders, with a base of masonry of 12 meters in diameter and 1.5 of average height and the body of the building of 6.1 meters of outside diameter and 4.5 inside with 7 meters high.
