Puntagorda

In the Pueblo de Puntagorda is located in the western part of the island of La Palma, the Barranco de Hizcagua acts as a natural border with other neighboring towns such as Garafía. One of the most remarkable monuments that Puntagorda has is the Church of San Mauro Abad. San Mauro was a Benedictine saint and has great devotion on the island since the fifteenth century and in the sixteenth century was when the church was built. The church is of simple construction of rectangular plant and a single ship that includes chapel, choir and presbytery. The pointed arch that is located in the interior gives it a great architectural value and that in turn divides the nave in antepresbiterio, vestige of Gothic in the archipelago. The interior of the Old Temple of San Mauro Abad mixes Gothic and Mudejar art, its importance has led it to be declared Good of Interest Culture l in 1986. The works of wood of tea that can be seen in its interior are of an important value, also the piles of holy water that are supported by the columns of the choir. The church was completed in August 2002.

The Pino de la Virgen is located in the town of Puntagorda, is a natural environment where what experts call the oldest pine in the municipality. It is located in the street of the same name and one is a placid and quiet place shaded by an imposing pine that is the pride of the population.

The Mercadillo del Agricultor de Puntagorda began operating in 2002, the main objective was to promote the sale of local products and the area. The Farmer's Market of Puntagorda guarantees quality and a good price to the products that the farmers who collected put on sale. The products go directly from the garden to the table and include fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses, honeys, wines, traditional pastries from the area, sweets, cakes, mojos. It is also possible to find some products with ecological certification. The Mercadillo has the certification granted by the Biosphere Discover Responsible Tourism Institute and has won the "Sustainable Management" award of the Reservation of the La Palma Biosphere. Currently part of the Club of Tourism Product Reservations of the Spanish Biosphere. The market is located just two kilometers from the center of Puntagorda, in an environment close to the forest of El Fayal, in addition to having a great charm landscaping offers a recreational area with tables and barbecues to spend a day in nature. The Mirador de los Dragos is also very close so, in addition to buying local products it will be possible to enjoy nature and incredible views.

The Mirador de los Dragos is an area that is located in the bar of El Roque in the town of Puntagorda. Upon arrival at the viewpoint you can see how it is presided over by a dragon tree, a dragon tree that has become an emblem. From the viewpoint of Los Dragos you can have a great view of the ravine of El Roque through which an old royal road passes. Nearby is the Las Gracias viewpoint and can be reached via the LP-1 road and at the height of the Barrio de El Roque de Puntagorda

In the middle of the area of pines, fayas and heather, in the municipality of Puntagorda, there is the recreational area of El Fayal. It is in the northern part of the municipality and is a perfect place to enjoy a fantastic day surrounded by nature. The recreational area has everything you need to make picnics, with drinking water, stoves, benches, children's area for the little ones, toilets and also has instructions for self-guided walking routes. The El Fayal Recreation Zone is located in the northern part of the town, you can get there following the path of Pinar, very close to Mercadillo del Agricultor which is located a few meters from this natural environment.

The municipality of Puntagorda has the well-known Port of Puntagorda. This place is a natural area that must be reached through a walkway and has two swimming pools and areas enabled for visitors to dive into the waters of the ocean. The environment of the Puerto de Puntagorda is surrounded by impressive cliffs that enhance the beauty of this point of La Palma. The waters of the Puerto de Puntagorda are calm and crystal clear, so it is perfect to relax and enjoy a perfect day at sea. Until the Puerto de Puntagorda can be reached by taking a circular path of about 9 kilometers linking the Pino de la Virgen with the port.

In the municipality of Puntagorda is the Natural Monument of La Costa de Hiscaguan, an area with spectacular cliffs that surrounds the mouth of the Barranco de Izcagua strong> that separates both Puntagorda and Garafía. The Natural Monument of the Coast of Hiscaguan received this award for the Law of Natural Spaces of the Canary Islands. This part of the coast has a great scenic beauty but also has an important geomorphological relevance, a clear example of the characteristic relief of the north of the island of La Palma, where the violent scourge of the waves has molded the cliffs that can be admired. The declaration of the monument includes a sample of an abrupt coast that is representative of the insular coast and houses plant species that are threatened and with some degree of protection, such as Limonium imbricatum and the bejeque Aeonium sedifolium.

In the neighborhood of El Pino in the town of Puntagorda you will find one of the points that offers the most spectacular views of the town, it is the Mirador from Miraflores. From here you can see a panorama of both the neighborhood of El Pino and El Pinar and perhaps the most advisable to get to the viewpoint is to go in the months of January and February since the almond trees that there are in all the valley blooms so a white blanket covers all the trees. To get to the Miraflores Mirador through an asphalted path that departs from the emblematic Pino de la Virgen, which is located next to the town hall in full urban helmet of the municipality.

En el municipio de Puntagorda está el Monumento Natural de La Costa de Hiscaguan, una zona con espectaculares acantilados que rodea la desembocadura del Barranco de Izcagua que separa tanto a Puntagorda como a Garafía. El Monumento Natural de La Costa de Hiscaguan recibió esta condecoración por la Ley de Espacios Naturales de Canarias. Esta parte de la costa tiene una gran belleza paisajística pero también tiene una importante relevancia geomorfológica, un claro ejemplo del relieve característico de la zona norte de la isla de La Palma, donde el violento azote de las olas ha moldeados los acantilados que se pueden admirar.Con la declaración del monumento se incluye una muestra de costa abrupta y representativa del litoral insular y que alberga especies vegetales amenazadas y con algún grado de protección, como puede ser el Limonium imbricatum y el bejeque Aeonium sedifolium.

Esta zona de acampada, la Rosa, se encuentra en Puntagorda, en la LP-1, Km. 76, cerca del centro urbano de esta localidad. Tiene capacidad para 50 personas y acceso a autocaravanas.
