About Plaza del Charco
It could be considered Plaza del Charco as the social and tourist center of Puerto de la Cruz. All the central and most touristic streets of the town converge on it, as well as being next to the popular Old Pier that so many sailors give to the Port.
It is a square that dates back centuries but there is no written record of its origin, but it is known that from the eighteenth century and began to be the meeting place of the social life of Puerto de the cross. Its most important reform was made in the year 1835, and at the end of that century its walks were paved. In the early twentieth century, the fountain was installed, and later the central kiosk.
Canary palms, Indian laurels and an ñamera give the green image that this square needs, whose original name, Plaza del Charco de los Camarones, is due to the fact that centuries ago, given its proximity to the sea, when there were swells in it, large puddles formed in which, according to the chronicles, shrimps could then be fished.
