The Caldera de los Pinos belongs to the Natural Monument of the Black Mountaineer in Gran Canaria, specifically in the municipality of Moya Geologically the volcano that gave rise to the island of Gran Canaria is one of the most recent but the vegetation of the area has had more than enough time to cover this interesting point. The Pino Canario is the one that dominates the landscape in La Caldera hence the name of the crater, eruptive mouth and by extension the volcanic building.

The Agüimes mountain is located in the southwest sector of the island, very close to the town of the same name. This protected area is a volcanic manifestation of the oldest on the island where it is possible to observe archaeological paintings and engravings, among which we can highlight El Hombre de Guayadeque, considered the symbol par excellence of the Aboriginal culture of the Canary Islands.

This protected landscape is located next to the stretch of the Guayadeque ravine and you can find a variety of flora such as sweet tabaiba, balos, vinegars, it is also possible to see Canary palms .


With respect to the archaeological remains besides those mentioned, remains have been found in the caves of the Morros de Ávila or rock engravings in Morro Cuervo. In addition to this, habitational caves and necropolis have also been found in the Banda de Agüimes that show the great importance of this enclave.


Due to the important remains that can be found in the mountain of Agüimes, it has been declared Good of Cultural Interest.

3. Reserva Natural Especial de El Brezal

Located in a mountain area in the northern part of the island, in the municipality of Santa María de Guía is the Reserva Natural Especial de El Brezal. This Natural Reserve is an important forest of fayal-heath and the largest sample of the Canary monteverde, it is possible to find also bicacaro and cabezon, cedars and an important pine forest area. The Special Reserve of El Brezal occupies an area of 107 hectares, a mountainous area with short ravines, steep slopes and steep reliefs.

The strong erosive processes have caused the reserve to have steep slopes, this is joined by the trade winds that have caused a dismantling of the geological structures as a result of their exposure.

With regard to the flora, 91 taxa have been cataloged, of which 65 are endemic and in turn these 17 macaronesians, 40 Canarian and 8 Gran Canarians.

The fauna is also very interesting, they are vertebrates like reptiles, the giant lizard of Gran Canaria, the striped grancanaria lisa, or the Boettger perennial. You can also see birds such as the mountain canary or blue tits, Canary mosquito net, the alpispa, the Canarian calender, the robin or the capirote among many others. To this we must add the large amount of invertebrate fauna that complete a natural site of incalculable value.

4. Reserva Natural Especial de Azuaje

The natural site of Azuaje, which is in the municipality of Firgas, is one of the must-see places of this town, an environment where nature is the true protagonist. In Paraje Natural de Azuaje is located in the ravine of the same name, originally the ravine was called Aumartel since it reached the port of the same name in full Costa Layraga

The ravine has a size of about 61 hectares and is inside the Doramas Rural Park and houses some threatened habitats, among which the redoubt of laurisilva and freshwater fish.

5. Ayagaures (Barranco de la Data)

7. Cuevas del Caballero

8. Yacimiento Arqueológico La Fortaleza

In Santa Lucía de Tirajana you will find one of the archaeological sites that can be visited in Gran Canaria, it is the Border Deposit This archaeological environment is formed by the rocks of La Fortaleza Grande, Fortaleza Chica and Titana.

Researchers have managed to clarify that La Fortaleza was already inhabited about 1400 years ago. Special mention must be made of the Fortaleza Grande since it contains some rock engravings, with defensive walls and stone structures linked to practices believed to be due to the monitoring of the seasons.

The Fortaleza was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest thanks to the good conservation of habitats, burial and rock art.

To complete all the information about the deposit, you will find the La Fortaleza Interpretation Center. In this place in addition to knowing all the information that throws this enclave on archaeological but it is possible to enjoy and learn with workshops that take place in the facilities. Events related to archeology, history and culture are also held.

9. Roque del Saucillo

The Roque del Saucillo is located in the municipal boundary of Vega de San Mateo and Valsequillo, in the protected area of and is a great geomorphological milestone in the area.
