Caves
The Cave-Sanctuary of Chinguaro is a cave or grotto located in the municipality of Güímar in Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain). According to historians it was the cave-palace of the Mencey Acaimo (Guanche King of Güímar). In this cave the Guanches worshiped the Virgin of Candelaria (patron of the Canary Islands) as the goddess Chaxiraxi (worshiped in the Canaries until the Spanish conquest), until later the image was identified with the Virgin Mary and was transferred by the same Guanches to the Cueva de Achbinico in Candelaria.

The Cueva de Chinguaro was the first sanctuary of the Virgen de Candelaria, and the first Aboriginal sanctuary that contained a Christian image in the Canarian Archipelago, although At that time the Guanches continued in their animist religion, until later to be Christianized. For this reason, various archaeological tools from the Guanche era have appeared in it, making the cave a place of great archaeological importance. This cave has the category of Good of Cultural Interest, and is currently a chapel dedicated to the Virgen de Chinguaro (a derivation of the invocation of the Virgin of Candelaria) derived from when the image of the virgin was in this cave.

10. Llano de la Virgen
Squares
The Plain of the Virgin is an esplanade located in the immediate trasplaya to the Beach of Chimisay, in the municipal term of Güímar, in the island of Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain). It is declared as an Asset of Cultural Interest with the category of Historic Site for its great cultural, symbolic and religious significance, related to the miraculous appearance of the image of the Virgin of Candelaria to the Guanches and the traditional Romería del Socorro.
Geologically, it is constituted by a deposit of whitish pumice tuffs issued during the IV series in volcanic eruptions associated with the Central Building of the island. Located in the hamlet of El Socorro, on the northern margin of Malpaís de Güímar and on a low coastal stretch, known as Playas de Chimisay (whose morphology has undergone some variations with respect to its original appearance).
In the Llano de la Virgen, the Guanches Ceremony takes place every year, a popular representation of the Virgin's discovery and of the first miracles performed by her. Within this enclosure there is a place called Campo de la Ceremonia. In it some milestones linked to the apparition of the Virgin are raised:
The Tea Cross that indicates, according to tradition, the place where the Guanches found the image.
Salobre well, used, according to tradition, by the Guanche shepherds who were surprised by the Marian apparition. The current appearance of the well, the product of numerous reforms, is that of an elliptical plant pit 3 m deep. It has a staircase made with edges of the beach, as well as the walls of the pit. All this is crowned by means of a curb of limestone ashlars.
A few meters from the Ceremony Field there are still interesting examples of the first habitat of the area.It is a set of caves excavated in the tufa, which served as a stay for pilgrims on holidays and whose age is difficult to determine if the tradition of using artificial caves as a habitat among the aborigines of the Güímar Valley is valued. . Currently, they present numerous modifications, being used as housing.
The Graderío is a space that was produced by the accumulation of materials extracted from the caves and has traditionally been used as a place of concentration for the spectators who witness the representation of the Ceremony.
Cuesta del Socorro. It is a cobblestone slope, located at the southern end of the "Ceremony Field", which saves the difference in the deposits of coastal pumice to access the Ermita de El Socorro and its farmhouse. It relates the tradition that is in this place where the Mencey Acaymo requests "relief" to be able to overcome the orographic difficulties during the transfer of the image to Chinguaro.
Cesspool of the Virgin. Saved the slope is a small building whose most characteristic feature is its lack of alignment with respect to the rest of the buildings. This small room houses the cistern where the water was collected for the consumption of pilgrims on holidays. The lack of alignment responds to its antiquity, long before the buildings of El Socorro. By the data that they act in the Book of the Brotherhood it has been possible to verify that already in 1842 four reales of silver were destined for the composition of the tank of the cistern.
