Güímar

The Puertito de Güímar is the zone of coast homonymous to the municipality. This area is ideal to enjoy a beach area very close to the urban area. It has a small fishing pier and a beach of gravel and black sand, with a stretch of almost a kilometer known as Playa del Cabezo. In addition, there are many areas dedicated to the restoration and that complement the offer of sun and beach that characterizes this population nucleus that, in the summer months, even triples its number of inhabitants.

This Church corresponds to the chapel of the former convent of the Dominican Brothers. In 1649 the construction of the Santo Domingo In Soriano convent was started with the purpose of welcoming the Virgen de Candelaria to guard it in the event of a pirate attack. In 1775 it suffered a fire where it was partially destroyed. The image of Saint Patriarch and Blessed Sacrament was saved. The oldest and most venerated, the Virgin of the Rosary was restored that same year by Rodríguez de la Oliva. In 1938, after the Mendizabal Confiscation the convent building has other uses of a civil nature. Finally, most of what was the convent was intended for use by the current City Council. The chapel was reopened to worship in 1961.

The Church of San Pedro de Arriba in the municipality of Güímar, island of Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain) is a simple construction of a square trend, about 45 m2, with masonry walls and four-tile roof of Arab tile. Its most representative element is the large half-point doorway in stonework. As an extension of the façade, there is an alpende of wood supported by thin pillars of identical material and covered with corrugated sheet metal. Inside, the mural paintings, made at the end of the 19th century by the Madrid painter Ubaldo Bordanova Moreno, represent the Theological Virtues, the symbols of La Pasión and the arms of the chapel's owner. In the interior, the movable patrimony is formed by: - Table of the Chair of San Pedro, anonymous of the XVIII century, that for a long time presided over the chapel. It belonged to the old altarpiece of the same, but its deterioration forced to retire it. The painting was restored by Elisa Campos Domínguez in 1995. - Carving of San Pedro, known as the Chiquito made in 1956 by the Orotavan imager Ezequiel de León. - Talla del Señor Attached to the Column arrived, made in 1960 by a workshop of the Valencian artist Miguel Espuig, which follows the Pedro Roldán model from Seville that is in the church of San Juan de La Orotava. - Carving of the Virgin of the Waters, image of dress executed by the Cordovan sculptor Francisco Romero Zafra in 2006. The environment of protection welcomes a terrera house and a pair of buildings of two plants, between those that stand out the one located in front of the square, with symmetrical arrangement of bays in the façade, mixed windows of bearings and windows and covered with tiles to four waters. Opposite the chapel, the square is the setting for various events during the patron saint's festivities. On June 27 of the even years, the images of San Pedro and San Pablo go in procession from the Parroquia Matriz de San Pedro to the Chapel, adorned with a bow of fruits and paper decorations made by neighbors, accompanied by the Dance of Cintas de San Pedro Arriba. The images spend the night in the Chapel, from where they return on June 28 to the Mother Church to celebrate the main day, June 29.

The Chapel of San Pedro de Abajo, in the municipality of Güímar, island of Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain), is a simple construction of a square trend, with masonry walls and concrete blocks, with Arab tile roof to four waters. Its most representative element is the large half-point doorway in stonework. Inside, the frescoes represent medallions with vases on the side walls, while in the background there is a canopy with angels. In 2012 an image of the Virgen de Luján (patron saint of Argentina) was placed in the church, the image was donated by an Argentine citizen living in Tenerife, a native of city of Luján. The solemn enthronement of the Virgin was promoted by the Consulate of the Argentine Republic in the Canary Islands and the chapel of San Pedro de Abajo. The Casa de Argentina in Tenerife and the City Council of Güímar also collaborated in this event.

This enclave is listed as Bien de Interes Cultural (BIC) and Ethnological Site, in the neighborhood of San Pedro de Arriba, in the upper part of the historical helmet of the municipality. Its construction is related to the expansion of the municipality, connecting with the Valle de la Orotava through the Caldera de Pedro Gil. In this location there are also three mills -the Arriba or Trasmuros, the Medio and the Abajo- formed by several cylinders superimposed and decreasing in diameter, made of masonry, following a cylindrical stepped shape. There is also a fountain on the corner between Chacaica Street and Nazaret Street. It is a rectangular stack with five jets, one of which represents the head of a lion.

The Ethnographic Park Pirámides de Güímar, nominated for the European Museum of the Year Award 2017, is a large open-air museum that gathers several open-air routes and specialized gardens around pyramidal structures facing the sun in key astronomical dates. The Park, which covers more than 64,000m2, includes the Museo Casa Chacona, the Auditorium with a documentary on the theories of Thor Heyerdahl, founder of the Ethnographic Park and know his incredible transoceanic expeditions reproduced in the Expeditions Room. There are also four outdoor routes: The Ruta Botánica presents dozens of endemic species of the Canarian flora. The Export Route shows those products that represented the livelihood of the Canarian people over the last five centuries. The Cultural Route reveals aspects of Canarian history, culture and ethnography. The Volcanic Route reveals the volcanic origin of the archipelago and its volcanic episodes. We can also discover the Poisonous Garden, a specialized garden, unique in the Canary Islands, with its more than 70 species of toxic and even deadly plants. It also highlights the Sustainable Garden, carried out in collaboration with the University of La Laguna. Garden, inspired by a typical Canarian ravine. Large garden areas and a leisure area with playground, cafeteria, shop complement the services.

The Cave-Sanctuary of Chinguaro is a cave or grotto located in the municipality of Güímar in Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain). According to historians it was the cave-palace of the Mencey Acaimo (Guanche King of Güímar). In this cave the Guanches worshiped the Virgin of Candelaria (patron of the Canary Islands) as the goddess Chaxiraxi (worshiped in the Canaries until the Spanish conquest), until later the image was identified with the Virgin Mary and was transferred by the same Guanches to the Cueva de Achbinico in Candelaria. The Cueva de Chinguaro was the first sanctuary of the Virgen de Candelaria, and the first Aboriginal sanctuary that contained a Christian image in the Canarian Archipelago, although At that time the Guanches continued in their animist religion, until later to be Christianized. For this reason, various archaeological tools from the Guanche era have appeared in it, making the cave a place of great archaeological importance. This cave has the category of Good of Cultural Interest, and is currently a chapel dedicated to the Virgen de Chinguaro (a derivation of the invocation of the Virgin of Candelaria) derived from when the image of the virgin was in this cave.

The Church or Ermita de El Socorro was built at the end of the century. It was declared Asset of Cultural Interest with the monument category. It consists of two naves, with roof of Arab tile to two waters. Architecturally it emphasizes its facade of abtería and its bell tower. Inside, the pavement is made of chasnera stone and an oil painting of Our Lady of El Socorro stands out, painted by Javier Eloy Campos, a native of Güímar.

La Plaza de las Flores, en el municipio de Güímar, fue renovada en el año 2013. Sin embargo, ha seguido manteniendo elementos icónicos del área para la población residente, como el quiosco, los bancos, la arboleda y las piezas de la balaustrada que se encontraban en buen estado antes de la remodelación del espacio.En las inmediaciones de la plaza se encuentra un parque infantil de 600 metros cuadrados que complementa la dotación de la infraestructura de este espacio urbano.Esta ubicación es una de las zonas verdes más importantes del municipio. Además, está en el centro de su Zona Comercial Abierta, con varias cafeterías y tiendas para disfrutar del entorno.

En noviembre del año 2017 reabrió su puertas el Espacio Cultural Cine Los Ángeles convirtiéndose en la actualidad en un espacio polivalente para la realización de actividades culturales en el municipio. La construcción data del año 1934, de estilo modernista, albergando el Cine Los Ángeles, de la mano de Francisco Almeida Medina, persona amante del Séptimo Arte y muy ligada al cine Numancia de la capital tinerfeña, y al desaparecido teatro-cine Güímar. Se colocó en él una pantalla de tela de forma cuadrangular, y a ambos lados dos sirenas del pintor gaditano Manuel López Ruiz. Actualmente se encuentran en el hall del Teatro Leal de La Laguna. Fue el primer cine de la localidad que montó el sistema Mascope, consistente en pantalla y motores. Desde el año 1937 hasta el 1960 trabajó como operador José Lorenzo Pérez Campos, conocido como Pepe Reyes, quién se hizo cargo del cine desde el año 1960 hasta el 1985, pasando luego a los herederos de la familia Almeida. Aparte de las sesiones de cine, se celebraron bailes, entregas de premios del concurso Gente Menuda, de Radio Popular de Güímar, y numerososas actuaciones. En los noventa, el local se utilizó para realizar ciclos de cine y hasta peleas de gallos. Luego se transformó en sala de billares y más tarde en tienda de juguetes. En 1998 el Cabildo de Tenerife adquirió el edificio y los terrenos contiguos para la ampliación de sus instalaciones. Poco después, lo cedió al Ayuntamiento con la finalidad de dotar al municipio de un centro habilitado para actos culturales, como ya había realizado en otras zonas de Tenerife.

Club Náutico situado en el Puertito de Güimar en Tenerife. En sus instalaciones cuenta con puerto deportivo de atraque, polideportivo, piscinas, gimnasio, biblioteca y sala de estudios y actividades periódicas. Se encuentra en el Camino de las Bajas nº 2.
